Team London Awards

We’re very happy to have been nominated for a Team London Award in the Mentoring and Coaching category.

Volunteers are the lifeblood at the Ministry of Stories and we’re pleased as punch that their dedication, enthusiasm and skills have been recognised as part of the Team London Awards.

Our volunteers are amazing people, doing incredibly valuable work. Since 2010, our team of writing mentors have inspired and built the writing confidence of hundreds of children, nurturing their self expression and literacy skills.

They have helped our young writers create their own country with laws, script a series of monologue shorts shot by professional film crews, produced an album sold on iTunes and Amazon and write a soap opera with Eastenders’ scriptwriters.

Every young writer at the Ministry will work with one of volunteer Writing Mentors. Whether it’s some support on how to get started, a query over spelling or a bit of encouragement to keep going, our mentors work tirelessly to help bring stories to life and raise aspirations.

The awards, which celebrate some of the amazing volunteering that takes place in London, will be held on Monday 31 October. Check in on our Twitter that day, as one of volunteers will be tweeting live from City Hall!

Fancy joining our volunteering team? Find out more about volunteering. You don’t need to be a expert writer or worked with children before. We provide full training and all we ask for is oodles of enthusiasm and good written and spoken English.
