About us

We help young people to write brighter futures for themselves through the power of their ideas and imagination.

What we do

We make writing exciting

Introducing the Ministry of Stories

Ministry of Stories champions the writer in every child. Co-founded by author Nick Hornby in 2010, we help young people discover their confidence, imagination and potential through the power of their writing.

Our purpose

Through a range of innovative writing programmes and small group mentoring, we help young people discover and realise their own creative potential.

Through our innovative storytelling and writing workshops, children gain confidence, grow in self-respect, and learn new skills.

Our purpose

Our method

We help young people develop new skills and achieve their potential by inspiring them to change their lives through writing.

And our publishing platforms make sure their voices are heard.

Our method

Our people

Meet the people who are behind the writing workshops, running a shop for monsters and shaping the future of the Ministry of Stories.

Day-to-day, we also rely on more than specially 200 trained volunteers who help with all aspects of our work.

How it all started

Our inspiration came from a place called 826 Valencia in San Francisco. This writing centre (which hides behind a shop for pirates) was founded by writer Dave Eggers and educator Ninive Calegari.

And, oh yes...

We have a shop for monsters!

Our dedicated writing centre is a fun, safe, and creative place hidden behind a secret door in our own fantastical shop Hoxton Street Monster Supplies.
