Our First Monster March

Posted by theministry on 8th November 2022

We slithered, crawled and marched to keep imagination alive in Hackney.

This October our young writers, families, volunteers and supporters joined together to hit the pavements and march in celebration of imagination, joy and creativity.

In the spirit of spooking season our young people created some bold and funny placards with a range of monster demands and puns, taking inspiration from our fantastical shop Hoxton Street Monster Supplies, while volunteers from our new corporate partner, Raconteur, proved to be dab hands with the face paints.

Our favourite demands included:

  • Freedom of Screech!
  • Fright for your Rights!
  • Who runs the world? Ghouls!
  • Free Brains on Sundays!
  • Scare without Care!

The march set off from our writing centre in Hoxton Street heading to Leadenhall Market – home to our Monster Supplies pop-up store. They bellowed chants and howls at the public, until they were rewarded with a range of monstrous sweet treats and a celebration Monster Month medal.

Our Monster March was the culmination of a fantastic month of fundraising from our incredible supporters, volunteers and staff and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the journey.

If you would like to support the efforts of our young marchers, their fundraising page is still open.
