World Book Day with Stephen Fry

Posted by theministry on 3rd March 2011

World Book Day was celebrated in style today at the Ministry of Stories.

Junior Story Ministers from St John the Baptist School spent the morning with us, creating a story with Mr Stephen Fry, who was filming for his new documentary programme, Planet Word.

Skip to our stories section to read the tale they collaborated on, The Witch that Wanted to Rule the World and listen here to hear some of their favourite stories:

Messrs Fry and Hornby also launched the MoS Favourites Fund today. To celebrate World Book Day, they invite you to share the value of your favourite book with the MoS. By donating the cost of a book you love, you’ll help us inspire future generations of book lovers.

It’s easy to donate. Is your book a £2 classic, a £12.99 hardback, a £50 coffee table book? Tell us the title and author, and why you love it.

Mr Fry picked A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole and our own Mr Hornby chose I Capture the Castleby Dodie Smith as their favourites from the list already up on the wall of honour.

Sign up at our Just Giving page to join these good sirs and add your suggestion to our list. With your help we can train our volunteer mentors for a year, to fire young imaginations and support hundreds of local young people to have confidence in their own writing.

The MoS Favourites Fund is open until 23 April, when we’ll pick the MoS Tip Top Top Ten. These lucky ten will be invited to a special visit at the Ministry of Stories.

Books for Victory!
