Call for animators

Posted by theministry on 25th April 2018

The Ministry of Stories and leading national children’s mental health charity Place2Be are embarking on an exciting animation project this summer term. We’re looking for volunteer animators to help us make the magic happen. Could this be you?

Working with children aged 8-11, we’ll be creating short animated films that reflect the children’s thoughts about emotions. These will be made widely available to schools to use as informational films or talking points, and launched with a campaign around World Mental Health Day 2018.

We will work with a team of volunteer animators, each of whom will be partnered with a small group of children to realise their ideas.

The key dates to consider are:

Thursdays 21st June, 5th July and 12th July from 3:15pm – 5:45pm. Three sessions at Ministry of Stories working in partnership with the children. It’s essential that animators are available for all three dates. The times given include 30 minutes briefing and de-brief time.

Saturday 21st and Tuesday 24th July. Recording voice overs etc with the children (not necessary for animators to attend).

Tuesday 18th September. Deadline for finished animations.

Wednesday 10th October. Public launch to tie in with World Mental Health Day.

Note: The children will create the story and script and contribute to designing the look of the film. Animators will then complete the films without the children present. We are open to a wide range of styles so that animators can work in a way that suits their available time. For examples from a similar (grammar themed) project, check out Grammarmations.

If you’re interested in being one of the animators on this project please contact Jessica Randall. We’d love to see a couple of examples of your work and arrange an informal chat with you.
