Mother Language

Three poems, four languages.

We’re celebrating our young writers’ voices with wonderful poems that mix their mother language with English.

Je Suis Louis

Je suis Louis
You don’t know me

Mon nom est Christophe
I have a bad cough

Je m’appelle Eliotte
But fear not

Je me nomme lou
It’s just the flu

Je suis Daniel
I had to sell

Mon nom est Nicolas
Premium Milk Boba

Je me nomme Denis
But that’s fine by me

Je suis Olivier
I had to say

Mon vrai nom est Lucas
My true name is Lucas

Hello/ Hallo

Nothing brings nothing
Nichts bringt nichts

And everything brings nothing at all
Und alles bringt gar nichts

because blue herbs stay blue herbs
weil blaue Kräuter blaue Kräuter bleiben

wedding dresses stay wedding dresses
Brautkleider bleiben Brautkleider

everything is sad
alles ist Traurig

nothing brings nothing
nichts bringt nichts

by Lewyn (in German and English)

All about Ladybird

I go to school,
I go to learn.

iskolába járok,
megyek tanulni.

I go home,
I go phone.

hazamegyek,
megyek telefonálni.

felmegyek a buszra
Felmegyek a vonatra

Katicabogárt zaklatják az iskolában

I do a pee,
I do a poo

Bepisilek, kakilok

Flush the toilet,
Go to sleep

Öblítse le a WC-t, Elalszik

By Reece (in Hungarian and English)
