The Little Ogre who didn’t Stop
A 100km gravel ride for Ministry of Stories
Hi my name is Greg Nay, AKA the Little Ogre, and I love riding bikes. On Sunday the 21st of September, I will be heading off to the greatest forest in London for a 100km / 62mile adventure.
Epping Forest has miles of gravel paths and I need some friends to go riding with. Join from the start in Chingford or tag along for part of the way. You can even ride the route yourself anytime you feel like it. With every donation I will send you the route file. All you need is a bike with a decent set of tires that can tackle the light gravel paths of the forest(38mm and above depending on the weather).
Even if you are not riding, you can help the Little Ogre spin his legs a little faster by donating.
A couple of years ago I rode from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, raising £4,000 for the Ministry of Stories in the process. At the time I was a mentor at the after-school clubs, where I watched as the frenetic energy of the kids was focused and directed towards world building; becoming authors, poets, podcasters and playwrights. For me the Ministry is a place to nurture that creative ball of energy that you have burning within yourself, but perhaps you don’t know what to do with.
Having volunteered at the community labs weekly workshops I have witnessed the seed of an idea written on a scrap of paper develop into something tangible, like booklet or zine. The kids are brimming with pride by the end of the project and that is made possible by the guidance of the mentors and the safe space that the Ministry of Stories provides for the children.
The adventure that the kids of east London go on at the Ministry, instills them with a sense confidence and helps them realise that life is full of unlimited possibilities. All of this comes free to the parents and in one way or another needs to be funded. The Little Ogre is that kid out for an adventure. Sometimes scary, sometimes exciting; getting lost and finding themselves – growing stronger in mind, body and spirit through what they experience.
Please come and join me on the 21st and raise some money so that more kids can have that chance.
