Story Spotlight – The Pool

Tall tales, ripping yarns and fantastical poetry. Jump into some of our young writers’ work.

As part of Time To Write term, our Thursday Writing Lab have been focusing on poetry. They were asked to write a response to this line:

‘I went to the trees to ask them: how should I winter? And this is what they said…’

One young writer, Isabella, wrote about asking the swimming pool how to swim:

I asked… The Pool

I asked the pool, how do I swim?
And this what it said:
Relax!
Listen!
And kick your legs, float
And make sure you listen to the teachers!
The pool says:
I’ll keep you safe so it’ll be fun.
Sometimes, I’ll be a bit deep
Or a bit shallow!
That will be surprising.
Sometimes, I’ll be wavy-happy
And sometimes I might
Make you sick under water!
