A Year in Volunteering
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Ministry of Stories.
Without them we wouldn’t be able to run our writing labs, open our monstrous shop or bring our exciting writing projects to schools. They support our small team every day to make sure we can keep helping young people in Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets to keep writing a brighter future. So thank you to our strong, kind, funny, interesting and generous team of volunteers. Here’s what our year together has looked like in numbers:
- 3,000 hours of time given by our amazing volunteers
- 1,000 Tins of Fear tinned
- 50 hours spent searching for Invisible cat Wells
- 500 boxes of breadsticks devoured by young writers
- 2,079 young people supported to bring their stories to life
“I’ve loved volunteering with the same students each week and watching them grow and develop their creative muscles”. – Elspeth
“Seeing individual young people progress and develop over time is very rewarding” – Oli
“My highlight of volunteering with Ministry of Stories is watching the young writers gain confidence and support one another. Every session I’m astounded by the level of passion and creativity they all have.” Thais
“My highlight is meeting everyone – especially the young people – and being able to support them being creative, being confident and being themselves.” -Leah
